Or at least that's what I tell myself anyway. But that's the kind of attitude I'm going into August with, come hell or high water. Why, you ask? Well, let's get into the things that have come up over the last month and half since I last posted.
We Almost Lost One of Our Fur Babies
In mid-July, Hubs and I noticed that our girl, Sako, was wanting out an awful lot one night. Like every few minutes, at most every 5-10 minutes. I was already concerned but it was late so I planned on keeping her comfortable for the night and then taking her to the vet in the morning when they opened if I could. But then, it came to 11:00 and she was crying and constantly wanted out every 30 seconds. So I made the call to phone the emergency vet to make sure that there wasn't a major issue I should be bringing her in for.
They had me take her out, try and take a urine sample. But when there was nothing to take, and her poor little body just shook as she strained to try and pee, but nothing. Now, I was edging toward panic, and I called them back, and they told me to bring her in right away. Only problem? The vets in our city closed at 10:00 and we had to take her to another city 1.5 hours away, at midnight, on a work night, and in the middle of a storm. You want to talk about a bad night, that was it. So in the car she went, and I took her down. But the storm stopped and in rolled the heavy fog where you can't see two-feet in front of you, and on a road where you will hit a moose if you're not careful. By the time I got her to the hospital it was two in the morning.
They took her right back in and ran their tests. They came back in, trying to act calm, but I could see the urgency on the Vet's face and I knew it wasn't good. Sako had 20 (yes, 20!!!) bladder stones, and one of them was trapped in her urethra, which was making pressure and urine build, and her bladder was so enlarged it was close to exploding. Would would instantly kill her. They wanted to get her into surgery right away because we were on a time-clock now to get it cleaned out and sorted. Of course I told them to immediately. They told me to go home because it would be hours, and they would have to keep her until that evening or a bit longer. So I made the long, foggy trek home.
Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and since then, she has healed incredibly well. But trying to keep a very busy dog quiet for 2 full weeks, and on a special diet, was HELL. The first few days, she was tired, but after that, trying to keep her from jumping up or getting excited was long and exhausting. I had to work from home, and someone had to be with her constantly. Still, all of that was worth it to still have her here.
The outcome from it all means that she's going to be on medicated food for the rest of her life to make sure she can't make anymore stones, because she will not survive another surgery like that one if it happens again. But I think we'll be fine.
And since she's a dog and I can't really embarrass her, how about I show you some of the creative ideas we came up with to keep her from getting at her incision? We came up with a medical shirt that she had to wear home and for a couple days. She hated it, but mostly left it alone. Then it got too annoying for her so I had the bright idea to put an airplane neck pillow around her neck instead of a cone. And she actually didn't mind it. I think because it was a pillow and that meant she had her own sleeping aid. The only thing she did not like was going outside in them. I swear she gave me side-eye every time. HAHA!
After all that, though, I'm just glad she's healed, back to normal, and we still have her here with us. It was scary as hell. And in case anyone is wondering, we also had our male (the white dog you see in one of the pictures in the doorway) also checked and he was clean with no evidence of stones or infection. But we'll be keeping a close eye on him as well.
I Finished The Devil's Conflict (Book 6 of the Devil's Soldiers MC Series)
Honestly, one of the things about being home with a sick dog that can't do anything means that you have a lot more time on your hands to write. Not exactly how I wanted that to happen, but I got ahead of schedule, so I guess I need to look at the bright side. And I already know what you're going to ask. Does that mean you're getting them earlier than December?
I'm afraid not. But before you get too upset, the reason for that is because it will be going to Podium Entertainment, who are producing the audiobooks for this series, so they can get it done and ready for release day along with the eBook and Paperback versions. So that means you'll have one more option to read/listen to the book instead of waiting for it to come. I think that's a pretty damn good trade off!
So what to expect from Sniper's book:
Age-Gap (10 Years)
Enemies to Lovers Vibes
Witty/Sassy FMC that has no problem going toe-to-toe with one of the more feared MC men.
Former military (he used to be her CO in the Army)
Somewhat Boss/Employee Romance (MC runs the security company she now works for)
Hot, steamy scenes
Suspense
That's a lot, but this book is honestly action packed, and I really do think you're going to love Thea. She's exactly what Sniper needs. If you want to preorder the eBook, you can do that HERE. And I'll give you a teaser too just to give you a little bit of extra fun. You know, so you can see just what kind of old man jokes Sniper is about to put up with from his lady since he has a bit of an issue with their age difference...
So What Now? What's Next?
I am not kidding when I say that I am excited to take some time off. I took a look back and just much I've written in the last year, and I have not been able to take any time off with writing or even just in every day life. I started a new job, we moved, dealt with house issues, and I spent so long writing books that I have not been able to relax or work on things that I have been putting off since.
Fun fact, in the last year I have written a total of 576,340 words, spread out 4 books and a couple other small things I've been working on. Just seeing that is insane to me. I'm going by about 10 months, but that's about 57,000 words a month! Which is insane to me when my normal average used to be 25,000. So yeah, I think I it's about time for me to take a break.
"Is One Of The Things You're Going to Work on Ember & Wolf's Wedding Short Story?"
I know everyone has been waiting on this short story for a year, but being so far behind meant I could not work on it. I just didn't have the bandwidth to try and work on it while writing everything else. I don't plan on writing it this month, but I'm definitely going to get back to it very soon. I think it would make a great Christmas present, don't you?
So What's Coming Next Then?
I'm not releasing my official writing plan for the coming year yet, but I can tell you that the next book up to be written is book 3 of The Lost De Luca Sisters (my new dark mafia series), and that is Lazaro's story. I'm hoping to release them sometime in Feb/March, but I'll share an official release day soon. And yes, I know the title and the general storyline but I'm going to hold off on sharing those just yet. Since I know you're going to want to know what to expect, here's a bit of it:
Size difference (he's six-seven, she's five-six)
Breeding kink
Overprotective Alpha MMC
Primal Chase Scene (but different than Nico & Gia, and Sienna & Alessio)
Forced Proximity
Kidnapping
There will probably be more, but for now, that's what I know for sure will be in there. I'll begin their story in September.
But in the meantime, make sure that you grab book 1, Little Mouse and catch up, because book 2, Little Rabbit, is coming on August 23rd. Check them both out on Amazon by clicking the titles below.
Okay I think that's all for me today. I mean, that was quite a bit. I'm going to try (I know I keep saying this, but I really do hope that with my break I can do it) and do a few more blog posts this month than normal, but we'll see how things go.
In the meantime, let me know what you're most excited for below!
Which Book Are You Most Excited For?
Little Rabbit (Alessio & Sienna)
